According to The Ministry of Culture and Tourism and World Tourism Organization,  this year tourism to Turkey broke the world record for an increase in tourism. After receiving 17 million tourists last year, Turkey may host 22 million this year, bringing it into fourth place among Mediterranean countries, following only France, Italy and Spain. Turkey seems primed to be among the world's top ten tourist destinations.

In mid-June the pressure on tourist services shifts from Istanbul to the Aegean and Mediterranean coasts. Hotels may be fully booked well in advance for July, August and early September.

In mid-September the pressure shifts from the seacoasts back to Istanbul, where hotels may be fully booked for late September, October and early November.

On August 21st, Istanbul's first Formula 1 Grand Prix auto race at the brand-new Istanbul Otodrom 62 km (34 miles) southeast of the city center will fill all of the city's available hotels, and even hotels in nearby cities. 

Especially hotels, but also for other services such as flights, tours, car rentals, sleeper trains, and hot-air balloon flights, it will be important to have advance reservations, because all of these services are likely to be very crowded, and often filled to capacity.
